185 years of Mental Health Care at St Bernard’s Hospital, Hanwell

Once the largest psychiatric hospital in Europe, come and hear about some of the history of St Bernard’s between 1831 and 2016: the buildings, the people, some myths and some truths about changes in the care and treatment of mental health patients over 19 decades. The talk will focus on the life of this West London institution, the influence of its pioneering Medical Superintendent, Dr John Conolly, and what life is like today for patients and staff.
