Glen Barnham 1945-2023

We are very sad to report that Glen Barnham died in September at the age of 78. He had been a member of the Gunnersbury Friends’ organisation since at least 1988 and served on the committee from 2018. Long before that, as a Labour Councillor in Ealing, he was a member of the Gunnersbury Park Joint Committee which managed Gunnersbury Park and Museum. Glen was a familiar figure taking his daily walk in the Park until health problems made this too difficult.

Glen was a councillor for Heathfield Ward (now South Acton) from 1971 to 1990. He served as Chair of Ealing’s Social Services Committee. He was made an Honorary Alderman of Ealing 2007 and a Freeman of the Borough. While on the Co-op Members Council he alerted us to the new community funding which was being promoted in Co-op stores and we were delighted to obtain a grant to support Gunnersbury Park Museum’s quilting project and exhibition.

We’ll remember him as a reliable, thoughtful gentleman, with a real sense of humour. His Twitter account reflected his love of theatre and art and regularly promoted the Questors Theatre in Ealing with which he was closely involved. We’ll miss him.
